Penn State notebook: Franklin says he has a 'healthy dialogue' with compliance staff

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The lengthy ethics and compliance report released Monday as part of Penn State’s annual athletics integrity agreement noted “increased tension, and a mutual lack of trust” between football coach James Franklin and Penn State’s athletics compliance staff.

University president Eric Barron said discussions occurring between the two sides are an example of positive communication. Penn State will end monitoring, which stemmed from the fallout of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal, at the end of 2015 rather than the original date of 2017. Penn State’s ability to comply with procedures put in place from the athletics integrity agreement are the reason for the early end date.
