Hours after Eamon McAdam became the second Penn Stater to join an AHL squad, Eric Scheid has added his name to the list.

Scheid signed an amateur tryout contract with the Portland Pirates, the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers, the team announced Wednesday.

Scheid can join the Pirates as early as Saturday, when they face off against the Springfield Falcons.

The fifth-year senior tallied 13 goals and 28 points in 34 games this season, finishing second to David Goodwin in scoring.

Scheid is the third Nittany Lion to sign a professional deal this week, following Matthew Skoff, who signed with the Reading Royals of the ECHL on Monday, and Eamon McAdam, who inked a contract with the New York Islanders earlier on Wednesday.
