David Thompson is far from a flashy defenseman, relied on moreso for his ability to shut down opposing teams’ top forwards.
But in the middle of the first period, the senior showed head coach Guy Gadowsky that he might have a little bit more to offer on the offensive side of the ice, too.
“It was a heck of a shot,” Gadowsky said, referencing Thompson’s goal, which came as a Penn State powerplay was expiring in the middle of the first period. “We certainly don’t mean to pigeon-hole anybody’s role by any means...to get a goal from that pair, I think it was very uplifting.
