Penn State men’s hockey team confident in James Robinson as alternate captain

James Robinson’s sophomore season consisted of less than a minute of ice time, months of rehabilitation from a broken collarbone and watching his teammates fall short of a bid to the NCAA tournament.

So it rose some eyebrows outside of Pegula Ice Arena when Robinson — who suffered his season-ending injury against Canisius in 2015 — was voted in alternate captain by his teammates over other candidates like seniors David Thompson and Dylan Richard. Thompson served as an alternate captain last season.

“It wasn’t a surprise to me,” said sophomore forward Andrew Sturtz. “Jim Robinson, he’s a one of a kind guy and I think he was the perfect choice for assistant captain.
