Trevor Hamilton left Miami (Ohio) just one game into his sophomore year, not knowing what laid ahead.
Four years later, not only is Hamilton is bound for the pros, but he’s headed back home.
The Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan native signed with his home state organization Thursday, inking a one-year deal with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Grand Rapids is the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings.
Hamilton, who participated in Red Wings development camp back in 2013 will bring a unique play-style and “warrior” mentality to the organization. He recently earned Big Ten defensive player of the year honors, leading the nation in blocks and Big Ten defensemen in points.
