Penn State men's golf struggles in opening round of NCAA Men's Golf Championship

Penn State came into the the NCAA Men's Golf Championship as the lowest-ranked team in the field at 48th, according to Golfstat.com. Through one round of the event at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, the Nittany Lions aren't silencing their doubters.

Where did Penn State stand: The Nittany Lions struggled early on day one, which was halted at 3:04 p.m. central time due to heavy rain. Play resumed at 6:05 p.m. for a short time before darkness ended competition at 8 p.m. with 15 teams still on the course. Penn State was able to finish its round before the rain delay but couldn't take advantage of the good break and posted a 13-over 301 to finish the day 29th in the 30 team field.
