Penn State men’s basketball’s Shep Garner left it all on on the floor in final Big Ten game

A little after 7 p.m. last Saturday night, a dejected Shep Garner sat at his his locker inside Madison Square Garden.

The senior from Chester, Pennsylvania had just finished the final Big Ten game of his Penn State career, and he looked nothing like someone who had just scored a career-high 33 points.

Instead, he looked like someone who didn’t do enough to carry his team to victory. And in his head, that’s exactly how it was.

All that mattered to Garner was at the final buzzer, the scoreboard read, “Purdue 78, Penn State 70.”

“I gave it all I had,” Garner said while wiping a tear away from his face.
