When Tony Carr knocked down a three-pointer with 23 seconds left in the first half against Michigan State, the Palestra got loud — so loud, the announcer could barely be heard calling Carr’s name after the score.
Field houses like the Palestra are characterized by the way sound bounces off their walls, causing deafening noise from only a few thousand people. New-age arenas like the Bryce Jordan Center do not provide that same atmosphere unless they are filled to capacity, which does not happen often for Penn State basketball.
Penn State should move its basketball games to its own field house: Rec Hall.
