With starters Shep Garner and Mike Watkins on the bench, freshman Lamar Stevens gave Penn State a hot start. But Stevens' early offense wasn't enough, as the Lions fell to Michigan 72-69 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Due to flu-like symptoms, both Garner and Watkins weren't able to start the game from tip-off, but Stevens stepped up to score the Nittany Lions' first six points of the game.
Although a three from the Wolverines' Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman gave them a one-point, 7-6, lead, Garner answered with one of his own, making it 9-7 in favor of the Nittany Lions.
