It wasn’t the best of first periods, but this time Penn State managed to stand toe-to-toe with one of the nation’s best.
Jordan Gross was the only player among the six who had attempts in a shootout to give the Fighting Irish the extra point in the Big Ten standings.
Andrew Sturtz and Liam Folkes scored for Penn State (13-12-5, 6-9-5-2), which extended its winless streak to six games, the longest for the program since the 2013-14 season, the second year at Division I and the first playing in the Big Ten.
Sturtz had the best opportunity to give the Nittany Lions a win during the five-minute overtime period, hauled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot.
