Penn State football’s win over Northwestern didn’t come easy. The Nittany Lions relied on defense and a grind-it-out effort on offense to get the 31-7 win. Northwestern’s stifling defense penetrated Penn State’s struggling offensive line. It cost the run game and forced McSorley to beat them. He did.
GAME STATS: 25-of-34 for 245 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions, school record 15 consecutive completions; 16 carries, -1 yard, one touchdown.
Despite being sacked five times, McSorley remained poised all day, and he accomplished it by completing short-range passes. He picked apart the Wildcats’ defense and threw receivers into the open.
