Penn State football ‘survivor’ Shareef Miller chooses academics over streets, becomes neighborhood example

Shareef Miller heard it all.

You’re dumb.

You’re going to JUCO.

You got all those offers for nothing.

Miller — once a prized high school prospect in a precarious position — admittedly didn’t care too much about his senior season.

High school football wasn’t his primary concern. Being eligible to play at the next level was. So was getting out of a neighborhood steeped in drugs and temptation.

Miller, now a redshirt sophomore defensive end ready to start for Penn State, held a 1.5 GPA going into his final year of high school.
