Penn State football offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead must feel like he’s in football heaven sometimes. The OC received so many weapons when he took the job and quickly turned it into a Ferrari. One less-noted player in this high-octane scoring machine is DeAndre Thompkins.
Lost in the big-bodied, field stretcher stands a dangerous deep threat Thompkins. His quick feet and acceleration out of breaks terrified defenses. Defenses would gameplan for Chris Godwin, Mike Gesicki or Saeed Blacknall but forgot about the shorter, 5-foot-11 speedster on the other side.
Thompkins caught just 27 passes for 440 yards and one touchdown, but it’s those glimpses that will help them move on from Godwin.
