At this point, Penn State football has made it pretty clear that they do not view the backfield the same way the fans do. In a perfect world for Nittany Lion nation, Noah Cain would probably be the lead running back out of the backfield, likely splitting carries with Journey Brown.
Instead, the Lions are still unwilling to make that a thing, despite the fact that those two proved to be the most productive backs through the first five games. While Journey Brown did receive a promotion a few weeks back, as Penn State made him number one on the depth chart, they still elected to go with the four-man committee, getting everybody a few carries here and there.
