Entering the 2019 season, redshirt sophomore Sean Clifford was penciled in as the backup quarterback for the Nittany Lions. However, with presumed starter Tommy Stevens entering the transfer portal and likely on the way out, Clifford will quickly be promoted to starting quarterback for Penn State’s 2019 season.
Clifford, while he’s not a nationally known name right now, has all of the potential in the world and could propel himself into the national spotlight with a hot start to the season.
Listed as the third-string quarterback a year ago, Clifford saw limited action, mainly in “garbage time” or when there was a need due to injury.
