Despite two conference losses to Michigan State and Ohio State, Penn State football still had a chance at making some noise in the Big Ten Conference. A big upset win at Michigan would have given the Nittany Lions a very slim outside shot at winning the division.
The Nittany Lions entered as big road underdogs to the No. 5 Wolverines, and all the experts picking Michigan to win easily were proven right rather quickly. Just like the trip to Ann Arbor two years earlier, the Nittany Lions struggled mightily, this time limping home after a 42-7 defeat.
Michigan held nothing back against the Nittany Lions and racked up 42 unanswered points.
