Penn State field hockey outpaced by Northwestern, falls to 1-2 in conference play

The Nittany Lions traveled to play Northwestern on Sunday, after suffering a tough loss against Iowa just two days prior.

Northwestern dominated the match with a 7-2 finish against Penn State.

Attacking the Nittany Lion defense off the bat, Northwestern’s Olivia Bent-Cole took an early shot at goalkeeper Aby Deverka. Losing to a block, the Wildcats sought for another attempt through a penalty corner earned by Ashley Sessa but were swept away.

Working around the mid-field line, Drew Taylor moved the ball into Northwestern’s defense. Wildcat Ilse Tromp sent an aerial ball down the field but it was returned by Gery Schnarrs to then earn a penalty corner with Julienne Van Bekkum heading it.
