Penn State fencing’s Karol Metryka takes first place in sabre event at Junior Olympics

Penn State fencing got the opportunity to compete at the Junior Olympics, a chance that freshman Karol Metryka did not take for granted.

The Nittany Lion finished in first place in the men’s sabre competition on Monday, rounding out the team’s weekend in the best way possible.

Metryka, now 20-11 , has seen first place finishes previously in his first season as a Lion. Back in January, he took the top spot at the Junior World Cup held in Phoenix. His competition came from all over the country, as well as all over the world competing against fencers from 16 different nations, totaling 70 different opponents overall on the weekend.
