Cheerleaders scurried past a horde of fans, young and old, clad in white T-shirts, jerseys, hoodies — even baseball pants — on the corner of Pugh and College Avenue. The cluster sauntered up a cement sidewalk, inching closer to the Old Main Lawn.

In the distance, a Beaver Stadium-esque roar erupted — eleven hours before No. 2 Penn State and No. 19 Michigan kicked off on Saturday.
