WEST LAFAYETTE -- Penn State’s letdown in a potential trap game came to fruition, but only for one half.
Purdue led the Nittany Lions by a field goal midway through the second quarter and the game was tied at halftime. But any chances of a pitfall against a struggling program that fired their coach two weeks ago quickly dissipated in the second half.
Penn State took advantage of two Purdue turnovers and scored four times in the third quarter, and seven times int he second half, pulling away for a 62-24 win. The Boilermakers led 17-14 late in the second quarter, but were outscored 48-7 the remainder of the game.
