Penn State entered Friday’s matchup needing to string together some victories in order to secure an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. With six games to go in the regular season, the pressure was mounting, as Penn State has never qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State has had an up and down year so far, with lots of close losses. The Buckeyes did win the Florida College Classic just before New Year’s Day. They had victories there over Boston College and Cornell, two of college hockey’s most storied programs.
