Every college athlete dreams of winning a national championship. But two?
“It didn’t hit me until the next morning,” Mike Meehan said. “It was unbelievable. Once people started texting me their congratulations, it hit me.”
Meehan, who serves as president of the Triathlon Club at Penn State, was the first triathlete to win two national titles in the same weekend since Arizona’s Ben Kanute accomplished the feat in 2013.
On Friday morning, Meehan claimed the national championship USA Triathlon draft-legal sprint distance Collegiate Championships with a time of 53:16, outpacing Colorado’s Dan Feeney.
