The last time Penn State took the diamond, it was embarrassed on senior day in a 21-3 loss to then-No. 22 Nebraska.
Nine months later, the Nittany Lions finally got a chance to redeem themselves.
Led by its new-look pitching staff and aided by timely hitting, Penn State opened the new season with a 2-1 road victory over Elon on Friday.
This year’s opener was a stark contrast to the first game of last season, in which the Nittany Lions were dispatched by TCU. In fact, this is the first time that Penn State has won its opening game since the 2013-14 season.
