Heading into the top of the seventh inning, Penn State trailed Maryland by three runs. The game was still well within reach.
But after scoring four runs in the frame, the Terrapins secured an 8-3 victory over the Nittany Lions in the rubber match of the three-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Lions (25-20, 10-8 Big Ten) had won the first game earlier in the day to even the weekend series after the Terrapins (24-19, 9-6 Big Ten) took Friday night’s game.
Because of his team’s victory in Saturday’s first game, coach Rob Cooper was pleased with the Lions’ overall performance Saturday, despite the losing effort in the series finale.
