After going 1-1 against Georgetown and Navy last week, Penn State looked to keep its postseason hopes alive as it traveled to Morgantown, West Virginia, for a mid-week showdown with the Mountaineers on Wednesday.
West Virginia jumped out to a 12-0 lead and held on to the lead, defeating Penn State via mercy rule, 18-7, in seven innings.
With Joe Jaconski and Adam Cecere on base after a pair of walks in the first by West Virginia, Grant Norris and Bobby Marsh were sent down via strikeout, disregarding the early mistake by the Mountaineers.
For the Nittany Lions, it was Mason Butash on the mound, making his seventh start of the season.
