Penn State kicked off Big Ten conference play in style on Friday afternoon, welcoming Indiana to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the first game of a highly anticipated doubleheader.
The blue and white mercy-ruled the Hoosiers, winning 15-9 in Game 1.
Ryan DeSanto was handed the ball, making his fourth start of the season.
After surrendering a leadoff walk and a follow-up single to the Hoosiers, the Nittany Lions’ starter quickly settled in, recording back-to-back outs—first with a highlight-reel diving catch by DeSanto, followed by a strikeout from the Frederick, Maryland, native. He then escaped the early jam by ending the inning with another strikeout, stranding a pair of runners in scoring position.
