Penn State was shut out in Game 1 of its weekend series against Michigan State on Friday, marking the first time it was shut out this season.
Those missing runs were found on Saturday afternoon, as the Nittany Lions erupted in the middle innings to beat Michigan State 11-5.
After 11 straight scoreless innings, Penn State started its scoring in the bottom of the second. Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the game turned on its head, when a fielder’s choice and two straight errors allowed four runs to come around, tying the game.
“The errors gave us a couple of runs, but I think at that point everyone exhaled a bit, thought we were going to win this game,” coach Mike Gambino said.
