The U.S. women’s soccer team has brought home the gold medal after beating Brazil, 1-0 in the Olympic championship match on Saturday.
Former Nittany Lions Sam Coffey and Alyssa Naeher started for the United States. Naeher manned the posts while Coffey patrolled the midfield.
Naeher’s goaltending ranks third all-time in caps, wins and shutouts in U.S. history and her performance at this year's Olympics has backed up that ranking.
The star goaltender was a crucial asset in the championship game, remaining locked in while making save after save, leading to a shutout performance over the Brazillian team.
