Penn State defeated Notre Dame 5-3 on Friday night in the first of two must-win games for the Nittany Lions at home.
First Period
After dominating 12-2 in shots for the first 16 minutes of the period but coming up empty on the scoreboard, the Lions broke the dam quickly. Aiden Fink and Reese Laubach suddenly sprang a 2-on-0 rush with a Notre Dame defenseman caught out of position, and Fink fed Laubach for an easy transition goal and a 1-0 lead.
Just 40 seconds later, Matt DiMarsico made an insane deflection on a floating pass from Simon Mack that found the back of the net for a 2-0 PSU lead.
