Penn State held off a late Notre Dame charge in a 3-2 win on Saturday night to keep NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
First Period
The first period was low in shots on goal- just 7-5 in favor of Notre Dame- but the home team got on the scoreboard first. Danny Dzhaniyev forced a turnover in the offensive zone, and Aiden Fink collected the puck in the high slot. Fink found Dzhaniyev wide open near the right faceoff circle, and Dzhaniyev fired home a one-timer into the back of the net. Penn State led 1-0 after the first period.
