Mark Andrews’ collision course with Oklahoma was set in motion during the Bud Wilkinson years.
His grandfather Jack Andrews was an OU student during the legendary 47-game win streak. Later in life, when the Sooners lost a game, it’s been said that Jack Andrews would be in a terrible mood all week.
That fan loyalty lasted generations and helped push Andrews toward OU, where he set history on Wednesday after being named Oklahoma’s first recipient of the 2017 John Mackey Award, which is presented to the nation’s top tight end.
“The situation was definitely kind of unique,” Andrews said on Wednesday.
