NORMAN — Bennie Wylie was expecting Lincoln Riley’s phone call when Oklahoma’s strength and conditioning position became open.
Shane Beamer — OU’s new full-time assistant coach — had no idea that he’d receive a life-changing call from the Sooners’ head coach.
Both men, labeled “critical hires” by Riley, met the media for the first time Friday and said they were excited about their challenges.
“Lincoln Riley can pick up the phone and call any coach in the country and that coach is probably going to have an interest in coming to Oklahoma,” said Beamer, who spent the past two years as Georgia’s special-teams coordinator and tight ends coach.
