OU football analysis: Laundry list of defensive issues soiling Oklahoma's championship dreams

NORMAN – A somber Mike Stoops walked into the postgame press conference on Saturday afternoon.

The wounds from Oklahoma’s 38-31 upset loss to Iowa State were still fresh. His defense was slashed for 449 yards – including 343 passing yards from a Cyclones third-string, walk-on quarterback who had two career passes on his resume and only learned three days earlier that he would play.

Stoops mentioned being spread out by Iowa State’s offense as a challenge. It was similar to what Baylor did and, moving forward, what Oklahoma will see from far more respected Big 12 quarterbacks than journeyman Kyle Kempt, who will now go down in Iowa State lore.
