LOS ANGELES — Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is trying to lead his team to a national championship as a true freshman.
Doing that means beating the Oklahoma Sooners, and it would also mean joining a Sooner in history.
The only true freshman quarterback to lead his team to a national championship is Jamelle Holieway, who ran OU’s wishbone offense to the 1985 title.
Thursday, Fromm was asked if he knew who Holieway is.
“No,” Fromm said. “Who’s that?”
A reporter filled Fromm in on Holieway’s significance, and Fromm cracked a little smile.
“Hopefully I can add my name to that list,” he said.
