Winston Yates redshirted in the 2023 season, although he was named the team’s Defensive Developmental Player of the Week once last September. A walk-on linebacker, he came to Penn State from Moorestown, New Jersey, where he was a two-time captain for the football team at Paul VI High School. He was also a multi-sport athlete in high school, earning first-team all-conference honors in both football and basketball.
Yates is unlikely to see consistent playing time this season, but if he continues to impress the coaching staff with his development, he could be a key depth piece moving forward.
