Ever since Akeel Lynch left Penn State following the 2015 season, no player on Penn State’s roster has worn the No. 22 jersey. That’s because back in 2013, it was officially retired in honor of John Cappelletti, the program’s lone Heisman Trophy winner. While all of us here at BSD remain huge fans of Cappy’s and have honored him countless times on the countdown, we feel it’s time to pay homage (at least for this year) to Mr. Lynch.
Akeel came to PSU during its darkest period as part of the 2012 recruiting class and after sitting mostly behind Bill Belton and Zach Zwinak his first two seasons, became the start his junior season in 2014, rushing for 678 yards and four touchdowns.
