UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State won’t encounter powerhouse Ohio State until 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at Beaver Stadium. But the off week has given some non-starters a chance to show their stuff.
At practice Tuesday, Penn State coach James Franklin said some of the young redshirt players and those not on the travel roster reversed roles with the starters. In fact, junior starting safety Marcus Allen seemed to be the most vocal member of the sideline, egging on his teammates during the scrimmage.
“Those guys, it can be challenging on those guys to go from being really good players in high school to being in the position right now where they’re on the scout team and not getting a whole lot of reps,” Franklin said.
