Referees found a Syracuse left winger guilty of direct contact to the head after flocking to the video review board during Thursday night’s Halloween special at Pegula Ice Arena.
The Orange’s fourth-liner Carly Sardine was sent off almost halfway through the second period.
The Syracuse freshman glided toward the action while Penn State left-winger Abby Stonehouse battled for the puck. As Sardine approached the scrum, she quickly braced for impact and clenched her shoulder as her elbow made contact with Stonehouse’s shoulder and head region.
“Abby is a feisty kid, she’s actually gotten crunched a lot this year,” coach Jeff Kampersal said.
