No. 8 Penn State’s tough nonconference slate continued, giving it another opportunity to prove itself against a ranked opponent on the road.
However, the Nittany Lions couldn’t overcome No. 14 Lewis’ service pressure before falling in three sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-22) in Romeoville, Illinois, on Saturday night.
The blue and white faced another difficult position to start a match as Lewis — powered by a 5-0 run — held a 11-4 advantage early on in Set 1. Numerous swings sailed on Penn State attackers, handing the Flyers easy points to expand their lead.
Coach Mark Pavlik’s squad couldn’t generate a serving run larger than 2-0 throughout the set, helping Lewis fly further away with the lead.
