Penn State’s winningest season in its history is now, in fact, history.
The Lions, who won 13 games for the first time in the school’s storied past, lost 27-24 to Notre Dame on a last-second field goal on Thursday in the Orange Bowl, which doubled as a College Footall Playoff semifinal, leaving Penn State a game short of playing for its third national title.
Instead, it will be the Fighting Irish, who last won a national championship in 1988, playing the winner of Ohio State and Texas for the national title on Monday, Jan. 20.
The game was tied at 24-24 in the final moments when Drew Allar was intercepted throwing back across his body.
