The top two teams in the state and two of the top teams in the country met for the first time in almost three years, as No. 3 Penn State traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the No.1 Panthers.
The rowdy crowd of the Panthers propelled Pitt to a 3-0 sweep of the Nittany Lions.
The Peterson Event Center was rowdy from the start and the Panthers fed into the energy. Pitt got out to a quick 6-1 start, prompting Penn State coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley to call a timeout.
Pitt continued its hot start, going on multiple four-point runs to sustain a strong lead.
