Following two losses to then-No. 4 Minnesota, an upcoming battle with Wisconsin presents an opportunity for No. 18 Penn State to clean up its penalty issues.
The Nittany Lions entered a two-game series against the Golden Gophers with a perfect penalty killing record. Penn State successfully killed 28 consecutive penalties before Minnesota captain Jimmy Snuggerud brought the streak to an end.
“We didn’t expect to kill fifteen minutes,” coach Guy Gadowsky said. “That included a five-minute major and some time on 5-on-3. You’ve got to give the [penalty killers] a lot of credit.”
Penn State’s penalty-killing unit has been active on both ends of the ice, scoring three shorthanded goals while only allowing a single puck to get past starting goaltender Arsenii Sergeev.
