Right from the first whistle, it was clear that Penn State and Wisconsin’s dislike for each other exceeded that of two ordinary opponents.
It was also evident just 17 seconds in, when Trevor Hamilton -- the nation’s third highest scoring defenseman -- was ejected for a contact to the head major penalty. An intense 64:43 of hockey followed, with the two teams combining for 20 penalties and exchanging plenty of hits and blows that went uncalled by the referees.
The game ended in a 3-3 tie, with Penn State claiming the extra Big Ten point, with that extra point the Nittany Lions took five of six points from the weekend.
