New Pitt AD Barnes weighs in on state of football program

If new Pitt athletic director Scott Barnes has his way, the future of the Pitt/Penn State football series will extend well beyond the four games the teams have scheduled.

In an interview today, Barnes said Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour was his first call upon officially taking the Pitt job June 15.

“Penn State, for us, we want to play that game as long as we can, home and home,” Barnes said. “We’re working hard to try to move that forward.”

Pitt and Penn State are scheduled to resume their rivalry in 2016 after a 16-year hiatus, and have four games on the schedule — two at Heinz Field and two at Beaver Stadium.
