ATLANTA — Jordan Akins has seen the look from Troy Walters before. The burning sideways stare that comes after a misplayed route or sloppy footwork.
But Akins — Central Florida’s 6-foot-4 senior tight end who has caught 30 passes for 459 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games this season — doesn’t mind the tight coaching. Partly because of his relationship with Walters off the field. Partly, too, because the 41-year-old offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach can still step on the field and demonstrate exactly how he wants things done.
“Coach Walters will throw some cleats on and show you speed, he’ll show you agility, he’ll show you hands,” Akins said.
