NCAA Tournament loss to Denver shows how far Penn State men's hockey has come and how far it still has to go

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Coach Guy Gadowsky couldn’t help but think that Saturday had the makings of a special night.

An NCAA regional in Penn State’s own backyard. More than 7,000 fans, most of which donning blue and white jerseys. A second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. A fourth straight winning season. A rematch with the team that ended its season a year ago.

“I feel like it was just so set up,” Gadowsky said.

It marked a reward for just how far Penn State has come in six short years as a Division I program.

“I've been to a lot of regionals, and I can tell you, I haven't seen an atmosphere in a regional like this,” Gadowsky said.
