Even as the sport’s grand spectacle, the NCAA tournament, was unfolding, a disheartening topic plagued college basketball in 2014-15. How had a game defined by speed and fluidity become so difficult to watch?
With a trying year behind it, the NCAA men’s basketball rules committee proposed a slew of rule changes Friday in an effort to increase scoring and improve the pace of the game.
Those measures were highlighted by a reduction of the shot clock from 35 to 30 seconds, the removal of one timeout and the expansion of the restricted area arc (where defensive players cannot draw a charge) from 3 to 4 feet.
