Mizzou distance runner White saves best for last

COLUMBIA, MO. • Drew White came to Mizzou in 2012 as the state’s best high school long-distance runner. But he had a problem: His body couldn’t handle long runs.

White captured the Class 3 3,200 meters at the state meet as a junior and senior at Festus High and also won the state cross country meet as a senior. The son of two college track stars, White arrived at Missouri expecting to dominate the college track scene, much like he did in high school.

“He was THE dominant Missouri runner coming out of high school,” Mizzou assistant track coach Marc Burns said.
