As Minnesota coach Richard Pitino settled in for his postgame press conference on Monday, he couldn’t help but smirk as he spoke about his team’s 3-point barrage against Penn State.
And who could blame him? The Golden Gophers had struggled hitting shots from three with consistency almost all season, but suddenly, with the game on the line and a four-game losing streak on the horizon, the 3-point shot became their greatest ally.
Minnesota hit 10 triples, including three in overtime to help them down the Nittany Lions, 95-84.
“We’ll take it, though,” Pitino said of the strong 3-point showing.
