Michigan men's basketball holds off Penn State at Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK — Echoing shouts from both Penn State and Michigan fans blared within the walls of Madison Square Garden as the Nittany Lions pulled within five points of the Wolverines with just under five minutes left in the game.

The back-and-forth chanting continued for the final minutes of the game creating a playoff-like atmosphere in a regular season conference game.

The Wolverines managed to fend off the late comeback from the Lions and pull out their fourth-straight victory, 79-72.

“It was great for these young men to play in Madison Square Garden, to bring the Big Ten into this Mecca of basketball, and have this opportunity for our team to play and get a win,” Michigan coach John Beilein said.
